WASHING & CARE
Can I wear my Melima woolies everywhere?
Yes! Use our products as often as possible and take them with you on all your adventures. Every melima product is made from durable and long-lasting fibers, so your child can explore the world. That's why it can withstand almost any challenge – whether it's dirt, sand, or a few spilled drops of milk. Our products are perfect for these little mishaps. If you follow our care and washing instructions, your melima woolie will be fresh, clean, and ready for the next adventure in no time.
A little care will help keep your melima woolies beautiful and long-lasting. Sharp or pointed objects like thorns, as well as sticky surfaces like Velcro fasteners, can damage fabrics. Therefore, avoid such items and remove them carefully.
What is pilling and why does it occur?
Pilling refers to small bobbles that form on the surface of wool clothing. This is a natural process caused by the hairy fibers. Even with high-quality merino wool treated with an anti-pilling finish, pilling cannot be completely avoided. Friction from wear is the main cause. The small bobbles appear particularly often in areas of high contact, such as elbows, armpits, sleeves, stomach, the sides of sweaters, and hips, where the arms constantly rub against the clothing.
What to do if pilling occurs?
If you notice pilling, it's best to remove the fuzzy little balls regularly before they get too big. The most effective method is to use a small, battery-operated pilling and lint shaver. This allows you to remove the balls quickly and thoroughly, so your woolly garment looks like new again. Please do not pull out or cut the balls, as this could cause threads to loosen and create holes or runs.
What do I do if I get a run in my stocking?
A run in a yarn is a vertical line of loose yarn threads that leads to a hole. It can happen when your yarn comes into contact with sharp or pointed objects like thorns or twigs. Stay calm! Take the garment out, bring it home, and repair the run yourself.
What's the best way to clean my Woolie?
Good news: Cleaning is easy! Merino wool is very durable and easy to care for. Under the right conditions, it can be washed very well in the washing machine.
As a general rule: Wash your woolens as infrequently as possible, but as thoroughly as necessary. Wool is naturally self-cleaning and odor-resistant thanks to the wool grease lanolin. If your woolen garment needs cleaning, please also refer to the care label for instructions.
